GREENVILLE, SC November 5, 2003 –- When Avery Dennison needed a system to collect, organize, and manage the real-time activities of the factory floor, they turned to Cernotec, a division of Premier System Integrators Inc., that specializes in Manufacturing Intelligence and enterprise application integration solutions.

“We needed a flexible, scalable solution that would work with all of our plants, regardless of their IT and controls infrastructure,” said Tim Stoltz, Six Sigma Black Belt and project manager for Avery Dennison’s Office Products North America in Gainesville, GA. “Cernotec’s ability and experience to provide all of these functions in a tightly integrated, off-the-shelf, web-deployed system was a major factor in our decision.”

In response to Avery Dennison’s needs, Cernotec’s project team developed a robust Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) platform that included the development and installation of VisualPlant™ and 4C@Site® applications. These solutions are tightly integrated to deliver 100-percent, web-deployed functionality and shop floor to top floor visibility to any user throughout the enterprise.

VisualPlant is the world’s first and only truly off-the-shelf manufacturing intelligence software that gives manufacturers a real-time view into their complete production process—an advantage that helps them accurately identify production constraints, downtime, and machine efficiency, as well as improve throughput and decrease cycle times. It collects both automated and manually entered equipment, product, and process data directly from the plant floor, and then transforms it into configurable views, reports, and user-defined key performance indicators in a web browser environment. “Users can now look at KPI’s such as line efficiency and OEE from different perspectives such as by shift, batch, operator, and others,” said Jason Premo, Vice President of Business Development, Cernotec. “They can then drill down further with built-in six sigma analysis tools to quickly find root causes to problems and make faster decisions with accurate fact-based information.”

In addition to VisualPlant, the 4C@Site manufacturing execution platform will deliver live scheduling, monitoring, tracking, and analysis of production orders received from Avery Dennison’s ERP system. It continuously monitors production orders at every moment throughout the production process in real-time to assure status, and it provides notification to all members in the supply chain if delivery expectations are not going to be met. “4C@Site delivers powerful tools to streamline and optimize daily production scheduling processes and responds to the real-time changes that occur on the factory floor,” adds Premo. “It gives them the ability to proactively identify issues and take appropriate action to maximize production efficiency, on-time delivery, and customer service.”

“Avery Dennison is a world-class company with a continuous-improvement focus on productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction, and they are leaders in their industry,” said Ray Chassevent, General Manager of Cernotec's Greenville, South Carolina field office. “As Avery Dennison’s solutions partner, we are excited to play a role in their efforts to leverage our technology and expertise to accelerate their Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma goals and help improve their bottom-line performance.”
