Refinish hardwood floor, unlike new installation especially pre-finish hardwood, which no needs sanding process on-site. Refinishing hardwood floor will generate more dust and dirt from sanding because it is a used floor and have more scratch that need more sanding. The key to success for refinishing and finishing is keeping the floor clean after sanding.

Tack cloth is one of tools for woodwork. After sanding, there are more dust, dirt, remaining particles in the room and the floor.

Clean it from top to bottom, any wrapping, lighting fixtures, electrical switch-plug and shoe molding, then cleaning your area with shop vacuum. Next step is applying a tack cloth by wipe all wood area to ensure the floor no any dust, dirt and lint on the wood surface before staining or polyurethane coating system.

There are main two opinions with using tack cloth for hardwood floor finishing both positive and negative although in the same brand. The point is solvent base of floor coating or staining that many people prefer use a tack cloth for oil-base finishing, but some manufactures have a product for water-base finishing, checking before buy it. The rule of thumb is testing yourself before apply to entire wood floor. Currently, many manufacturers have developed theirs tack cloth for compatibility with wood floor refinishing, so one may order it and try on a sample piece of wood.
